How To Use This Site

Getting Started

To use Paragraph Punch, users need to be able to write basic sentences. This site provides interactive online writing practice. Users are guided, step-by-step, through the process of writing clear responses to a prompt. Personalized tips and suggestions are provided throughout.

The free version of Paragraph Punch offers only one (1) writing prompt. Fifteen (15) guided writing prompts are in the full edition of Paragraph Punch.

For slightly easier writing prompts, with simpler explanations, please use Starter Paragraph Punch. It has sixteen (16) guided writing prompts.

Essay Punch allows users to practice their essay writing skills. It has nine (9) interactive writing prompts.

Key Details for Students
The site disables the "back button" in a user's browser to encourage a step-by-step approach to learning. However, as students progress they are provided with many opportunities to change and improve their work.

After making a writing input, students' should press "Enter" or click the "OK" button only once. A slow Internet connection may cause the site to take extra time to move to the next step. Pressing these buttons repeatedly will lead to errors, eventually causing students to lose their work.

System Requirements
Paragraph Punch works on any operating system (Win, Mac, Linux) supporting one of many popular web browsers. A screen display of 1024 x 768 or larger is suggested.

Version Comparison
The ability to save written work is disabled in the Paragraph Punch demo. Users of the complete online edition of the program may save and resume work. Also, the school version of Paragraph Punch automatically saves pupil work in an online portfolio accessible to teachers.
